| Step 8 | ![]() |
Pour solvent into developing jar
so that entire bottom of jar is covered at least 1/4" (6mm) deep. The
large filter paper is folded across the bottom and inserted with the fold
against the wall of the jar. Shake the jar to wet the paper, and check depth
of solvent again - add solvent if needed.
Allow solvent vapors to saturate atmosphere by standing jar on bench for at least 10 minutes with cap snug. |
| Step 9 | ![]() |
Touching the plate only at the
top, gently lower it into position. The edges of the plate should
not touch the paper, only the top corners.
Note how the origin is well above the solvent level.
It is important to leave the jar undisturbed during development.

| Step 10 |
|
When the solvent front is seen to reach within 1-2 cm of the top of the plate, the plate is removed, and, immediately, before the solvent evaporates.............. |
