The non-reflective side of the
plate bears the silica adsorbent, so place the plate shiny-side down.............
Mark the origin at the side of the plate (pencil only - why?). It should be about 1.5-2.0 cm from the bottom of the plate in order to be sure it is well above the solvent level during development. This is the level at which samples will be spotted. NOTE: Handle plates only by the edges or the shiny surface! |

At the top of the plate, mark
lanes for the individual samples. Setup shown is for Experiment D.
Notice how the lines on the card are visible through the plate. |
