NMR SAMPLE PREPARATION

Q: How do I prepare an NMR sample?

A: Check out an NMR tube at the Service Center. They will fill it with the correct amount of deuterated chloroform with TMS. Add 1-2 drops of your liquid (or 10-20 mg in the case of a solid), then cap the tube and shake well.

Q: How do I label the tube?

A: Don't use tape - the tube may break while removing it. Push the tube through a hole in a paper label; a perforated strip from printer paper works well.

Q: How do I clean the tube?

A: Dispose of the contents in the small deuterated chloroform waste jar, rinsing with acetone a few times. Then place the top of the tube against the house vacuum nipple to evaporate the acetone.
